On the 19th of September 1846, around 3pm, two young shepherds, Mélanie Calvat, aged 15, and Maximin Giraud, aged 11, were guarding their herds on a mountain near the village of La Salette-Fallavaux. On the evening, they said to their masters that they had seen a lady in tears who had spoken to them. Widow Pra (also known as widow Caron), mistress of Mélanie, thought that they had seen the Blessed Virgin and the children were urged to tell the priest of La Salette everything. They did it the next day, Sunday morning. The priest wept with emotion, took notes and, again in tears, described what had been told to him, in his sermon.
The Shrine of Our Lady of La Salette is located in La Salette-Fallavaux, France.
